This is a hilly course with a few too many cart path only holes. We played after rain event so the whole course was cart path only. Due to that and poor staff management of pace of play it took us almost 6 hours to complete the round. Too many blind shots. Many bunkers in poor condition.

Black Bear is a neat course, but it doesn't play as well as the other crystal springs courses in New Jersey. The course is challenging and fun but does not stand out from the many other courses in NJ. I think it is also priced high compared to other similar courses. As part of the Crystal Springs group, this is a decent course, a little lower in quality from Black Bear and Wild Turkey. Easier than those two and the Crystal Springs course. Some holes can be a little tight. Greens and fairways were in good shape for fall. Some spots were a bit wet from the recent rain and a couple holes cart path only, but overall it was a decent round.
